ACCRA MAYOR POINTING AT AN ILLEGAL CONNECTION |
The Accra Metropolitan Chief
Executive, Dr. Alfred Vanderpuije has advised traders at the Odorna Pedestrian
Shopping Mall to desist from illegal connection as a source of power
generation.
He said, “Immediate
gratification is not a permanent solution”, so they should desist from
contacting unscrupulous persons to provide them with illegal connection at a
fee ranging from 400 to 500 old Ghana Cedis.
ACCRA MAYOR ADDRESSING VICTIMS |
The advice was given
when the city Mayor led a team from the assembly to inspect the level of
destruction caused by the conflagration which occurred on Sunday 26th August,
2012. A total of 96 stores were raised down by the fire.
MAYOR SHOCKED BY LEVEL OF DESTRUCTION |
A committee has been
set up, comprising officials from the Electricity Company of Ghana, ECG, and
the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, A.M.A to access the prevailing problem of
illegal connection and find a solution.
He informed the victims
that a contractor has been contracted to clear the debris and has also asked
the National Disaster Management Organisation, NADMO to take inventory of the
victims and things lost so that they can be assisted.
He told the victims of the fire outbreak that the
government shared in their pain and sympathises with them and as such will do its
best to solve the problem.
He went further to
state that plans are far advanced to rebuild the market.
